The crux of the matter seems to lie in the fact that learning experiences are equated to the ability to use existing methods and theories. The validity of the status quo is taken as gospel truth. And the status quo survives; why? simply because it is not challenged. An epitomization of the focillization of theorems is the Dragon Book - For 50 years it has remained the authority on compiler design. Compiler theory is by no means as fundamental as, say, The Theory of Relativity. But, for 50 years we've found no alternative.
And whenever we do question things, it's mere trivia. For example, What's with these programming language wars? Java trying to usurp C++, C# attempting to dethrone Java. What drivel? There is no fundamental difference between a C# compiler and a C++ compiler. How can you expect a language to be so different if it's compilers are more or less built on the same principles?
The 'Evil of the Day' that's being passed around seems to be, Industry Focused Education; I can think of a synonym - Brainwashing.
But I degres. So, why am i aiding the perpetuation of this atrocity? Well, I try not to. But the rot runs deep. No one wants to explore, No one wants to criticize, No one is interested. The role of an instructor is to point out the horizons, it should be the students' duty, nay his passion to explore! Sadly, students expect instructors to play the role of a blind persons guide.
Yes you lot - I'm talking about YOU!
