Rolling guilt gathers no penitence

Paradise Road has these really snazy ancient stuff. I believe I've already mentioned that I would find tracing these items to their origins an adventure;a journey through history and all that. There was a Ganesh Statuette and a Shiva Linga that looked particularly adventurous. And it's with the intention of carrying out a trace operation that I began quizzing this girl, who I later gathered was a member of the owning family. So I asked her whether they know where they acquired stuff from, how detailed their records were, whether they keep a record of their customers and so on. The interview didn't go down too well to my bewilderment.

I honestly didn't realize that I was insinuating that Paradise Road was committing some kind of crime, but in hindsight I cannot construe my remarks to have been anything but an accusation. I am a bit slow on the uptake. The realization hit me a good 15 minutes after the interview while driving through a nasty little rain storm. The first impulse was to turn back immediately and apologise. But it was raining and I had to be somewhere. The next day, I felt guilty but laziness had already gained the upper hand and was cementing its position by impressing upon my mind the futility, meaningless and utter worthlessness of driving all the way to the store to make an apology.

And so it stands. I still believe I should apologise. But I don't think I ever will.
